Rock of Respite

The incredible beauty of Royal Arch Lake is hard to depict in just a photograph. There is simply no way to capture its full scale impression in one image. Here I was drawn to the comfortable, intimate scene of rocks and trees in a secluded corner of the lake. I also wanted to capture the topography for which the lake was named. The polished granite domes and arches make it a classic High Sierra destination. Located deep in the heart of Yosemite National Park's backcountry, the two day trek is a journey worth traveling - just make sure you bring your DEET and mosquito nets!
