Into the Sun
White Sands National Park, New Mexico
As the sun sets behind the San Andreas Mountains (elevation 8235 ft) a cloudless sky turns a golden yellow while fading contrast of shadows in the dunes reflect dark blue. I used my telephoto lens to compact the scene to form an abstract impression. The gypsum that forms the white sand was deposited at the bottom of a shallow sea covering this area 250 million years ago and it is part of the Tularosa Basin. Photo © copyright by Michael Greene.
